The Beginning of the Cold War & "Catcher in the Rye"

J.D. Salinger’s recent death has many of us re-evaluating one of the 20th century’s greatest novels. This class will analyze and evaluate the beginnings of the Cold War and the cultural settings that led to Catcher in the Rye. Study Atomic Bombs, Mass Media and Pop Culture, the Red Scare and of course Holden Caulfield. The post WWII years were a period of enormous physical and psychic transformations, the age of affluence and its accompanying apprehension about conformity and the problems of youth, are still with us today. Limit: 40
You may want to take The Catcher in the Rye - Then and Now on May 4th, as the classes will complement each other.
